Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
